Attemps in the Kitchen

2/23/11
I find it more appropriate to title this page "Attempts in the Kitchen". Hopefully they will become more positive in nature!

On my birthday, I decided to get creative and make Landry all sorts of things for her party. It was the most "trying" two hours of the day.
These baked goods/desserts included chocolate covered marshmallows and strawberries, peanut butter jelly hearts (courtesy of Lauren!), and a red velvet cake/cookies. Here are some of the pictures of the marshmallows and the kitchen. Everything else, truly, I am embarrassed to post. I am trying my best, that is all I can say.

The marshmallows turned out looking cute. I do not know if they were good.

I also baked Landry a chocolate sheath cake for her real 1st birthday that I will soon feature! This turned out delicious!

Aggie Cookies

I love these cookies and they seem to turn out best when Virginia Crowell makes them.

2 cups shortening
1 tsp baking powder
4 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups granulated sugar
4 egss
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups instant oatmeal
2 cups semi sweet choc chips

Cream the shortening and sugar together, add the eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Sift the baking poweder, flour, salt, and baking soda together. Then add 1/3 of the dry ingredients, mix. Add the oatmeal, blend. Add 1/3 of the dry ingredients, mix, and add chocolate chips, blend. Then add the final 1/3 of the dry ingredients and mix well.

Put 1 teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheets. I love to use the small cookie scoopers to make the perfect Aggie Cookie!

Cook on 350 for 12 minutes.

Almond Cheese Dip

I must admit, this is not my recipe but Matthew's boss's wife, Linnie's. It is delicious and easy and calorie free. Okay, not calorie free but very good. Everyone really loved it and it doesn't take much time.

8 oz cream cheese
1/3 cup mayo
3 green onions chopped
6 oz swiss cheeses shredded
4 oz gouda shredded
Sliced almonds
A pinch of salt and pepper and nutmeg

Stir the mayo and softened cream cheese until smooth.
Add in the cheeses and ½ cup sliced almonds and chopped green onion.
Bake 350 for ten minutes, then add more onions on top and bake 7-8 minutes more.
