Seriously Serious?

This is a phrase that someone once taught me (Niki :)!), and translated it means for real, no lies, absolutely. I don't even know if it is relevant but pish posh....this last week Laney has been very congested and had a terrible cough. We went to the doctor on Monday to get the second dose of her rota virus vaccine. We were not able to get this at her 4 month appointment because she had the rota virus (gross). Anyway, I asked the nurse "could this be RSV?" without really even knowing what it was. Her exact response "no way, this is not RSV". But things did not get better all week and progressively seemed to get worse. We did not get any sleep (per the usual I suppose) but woke up 8 or 9 times a night with Laney coughing and congested. At work it was the end of quarter close and entries had to be posted. To say the least, we have all been exhausted.

Well, on Friday I had a feeling in my stomach that could only be mother's intuition. My friend Stephanie calls it our Motherly Magic! Laney didn't eat anything at day care and kept pulling on her ears. I took her to the doctor thinking she had an ear infection. But the doctor nixed that by checking her ears and immediately suspected RSV. He swiped her nostrils and his suspicion was straight on. She is only 4 1/2 months old, are you kidding me? Nope, seriously serious. Laney now has RSV. And the doctor was clearly upset with his staff that we didn't see someone besides a nurse, as was I.
I know kids get sick, this I realize. But I just can't stand it nor accept it. For one, this daycare thing is getting harder and harder. And trying to focus and get all my work done seems so insignificant when there is a child that needs me. I suppose the best part is, if that is even possible, she doesn't act sick and is just as happy as ever. Still, I loathe these baby illnesses.
My Momma is here this weekend and to help out this week when I have to go in. Luckily, I am able to work some remotely and will be able to stay home with her too. Matthew has finals and I am praying he is able to study and get through them once again.

Reading back through, I realize this was a depressing post. I am just very sad that Laney is so little and has been through the ringer. I know I am not alone in this and feel for all of us mothers who have to watch our babies get sick.
But here are some pictures to cheer up the post....

Lesley came to Austin to visit us and we went for a 3.5 mile run. I wonder if things will ever be normal for me again, I am just not the same runner I once was. Me sad.
Here is Laney and Momma watching the "Laurie Berkner Band" this weekend. She absolutely loves loves loves this new show that we recently got and these silly songs stick in my head!

Saturday night we had Laney try bananas and she was interested and very happy at first.....but then realized something different was on her tongue. We will keep trying but it was fun giving her real people food too!

Look at that face! Laney "no likey" (this is a phrase I used when a little one)! But she will, I think it will just take a few more times of trying bananas....

That is all I know for now....

Glad your mom can come there for you guys. I know we grandmothers count it a real blessing to be able to "be there" for our girls once again. Just last week, all our little ones were back and forth to the doc with flu (yes, they had the shots... it was the "other" one so the dr. said), stomach bug, strep and/or ear stuff. You guys hang in there... just think, they are building immunities so they will be able to fight off the bad bugs later. Troy and I pray for all these little ones and their mommies and daddies too! When does Matthew finish? Then what?

I am so sorry this hasn't been a good week for y'all! I hope your lil precious gets better soon! The only positive thing about her being sick is she is working up an immunity so that when she is older and in school she will have perfect attendance! :~)

Hey! I'm one of Matthew's high school buddies... he gave me your blog address... I was just checking on you guys and read this entry... we just had a baby boy 8 weeks early and he's 7 weeks old and earlier this week we found out he has RSV (luckily he had a RSV shot before coming home from the hospital, so it wasn't as bad as it could've been) Want you to know I feel that heartache you're going through! It's just so hard! We'll be praying for Laney... she's adorable, btw!

I don't know how you do it! That has to be so hard watching your little baby girl be so sick and not being able to fix it right away. I hope she gets better FAST and that you get a chance to relax! Looking forward to JUNE!!!
