Who Says You Can't Go Home?

Growing up in Abilene, Texas wasn't, at the time, perfect. As an adult, now that I've lived many places and traveled the world, it's nice to still hold onto roots in a place that gives me a feeling of my youth. You are always guaranteed to run into someone you know, have a plethora of good places to eat (that aren't in a restaurant chain!), make it about anywhere in town in five minutes, and eat thumb print cookies. Abilene wasn't the place I ever had the desire to settle down or go back too. But as I get older the temptation is always tucked away in the back of my mind. I always look forward to visiting the Berg's and my old stomping grounds. And I love being able to say that I'm a small town girl from Abilene, Texas. It's a place that words won't coherently explain but I know my oldest and dearest friends understand completely. Clearly, nostalgia definitely set in after this last visit home. This picture above was lucky. We were driving out to Perini's and I somehow caught it through the window. I love it when the light shines through the clouds. West Texas isn't all red dirt and dust. I got to see Suzanne and Carolyn at Andrea McMinn's baby shower Saturday morning. And I found out Carolyn's good news! I am so excited about the little Care bear on the way!And we saw Martha Foreman at London Bridge. She bought Laney her beautiful "screaming beauty" hat! Laney loves it and her Aunt Mar-Mar!And since we have "built in" babysitters in Abilene, Matthew and I got to go have date night. Still, it's hard for me to leave little Laney even for a few hours when I know it's time I could have with her. But she loves spending time with her "jOjA!". I don't know exactly what Laney will call her but I kind of have a hunch! Sunday we had Thompson's shower and Laney got to meet some of my dearest friends and hers! She was geared up!

I always love looking at the group pics of my high school friends and seeing how many of us there are. The craziest and best part is there are still so many of us missing! I am thankful that we have all kept up and in touch over the last ten years. We are not the norm and I hope Laney has the same someday.

Molly and Leigh Ann meeting Laney for the first time! And Camden, Quinn, and Laney all posed on the floor for a quick pic. Brittney and I were a bit flustered for a few moments when Laney kept falling on top of Quinn! I'm glad I got one good pic! Laura and Brittney with the little ones! No, I cannot believe we are Momma's! Can I hold you Camden? They were fast friends and Camden kept running up to Matthew to hold her. It was adorable and fun for me to see M with another little girl , Mini Mav, bigger than Laney! After the shower Laney was finally not over stimulated and in all smiles! Laney loved listening to her Daddy and laughing with her Great Grandmother after the shower! She sure did talk and talk with Dorothy. It was wonderful to have that time with her. Laney immediately finds herself giddy when she sees my baby sister! Her Aunt Lel sure can make her giggle and smile so big!
And she got to meet Jessica too, precious high school bff's! My Momma singing something silly to Miss Laney! She always has the most clever songs to entertain her with! And gets her the cutest things! Thank you!

Dinner at our absolute favorite steak restaurant in Buffalo Gap; Perini's! Yummy! Daddy Berg holding his little Laney K! He kept trying to teach her how to say "Cowboys" for her first word. I am certain Matthew will work on that one too. I was caught singing (uh oh) with Laney "Do you love me...now that I can dance?" and we were shaking it and laughing! I love being silly with my baby girl! I will do just about anything to make her laugh! And, we wore Laney out this weekend but I loved this pic. That Crowell mouth of hers is too pretty! I love that sleeping beauty!

Good Night!

Yes, I can hear it in your words Miss Laura.... you know... "home is where your heart is"? I'd ask you "where is your heart?"... yes, I know it is in a couple of wonderful one's care, but I am speaking rather geographically right now... I know JoJa would LOVE having you closer!!! believe me I KNOW!!!!!!!!! BUT, that said... I also know... ONLY GOD can make the BEST plans! and yes, we will look forward to you and Matt at the GGC! Tell Matthew a belated happy birthday, seems I recall his, and Elly's being somewhat close! Hug him for me too. and tell little Laney we can't wait to meet her. c

What a fun-packed weekend! I get the same wave of nostalgia everytime I go back to Abilene too. I love that it's my hometown! I'm so glad I got to meet your sweet little Laney. She is even more adorable in person than in pictures, if that's possible! It was great to see you. I too am thankful that our high school friendships have stayed so strong over these past 10 years.
