How I love the hill country and the peaceful escape it typically provides from busy life. And I still enjoyed this past weekend immensely. Matthew finished his first year of law school on Friday and from then on we entered Deer Season in the hill country. Now, I knew what I was marrying into with Matthew and his life. Still, deer liver, hearts, jerky, sausage, not to mention Hank and Boomer (the dogs) playing with deer’s tails or hide; it's just a little too much for me to put my heart around. I won't even kill crickets or spiders, much less take the life out of any creature. But I won't argue for the love of eating steak and hamburgers. Someone must do the work and they might as well enjoy it. Saturday morning, I was unable to run around the ranch because Matthew didn't want me to get shot. Or, most likely, he didn't want me to scare away all the deer. Instead, I went to the high school track in Fredericksburg with Virginia and did my weekly dreaded long run. Then we went shopping and had lunch on Main Street. The rest of the weekend was spent eating cookies, burning brush, riding the four wheeler, feeding the donkey's, watching the Aggies and Cowboys lose, and studying for the GMAT. Fredericksburg/Llano is still a wonderful escape and weekend vacation just with an added awareness of guns and hunters.

The once ill calf. I want to call her Lucy but hesitate to name her. I understand I shouldn't get too attached. Now, she is as happy as all the others. Still, she is really sweet and I will always remember the story.

I'm proud of you! You're a trouper to deal with all of that!!! We'll do anything for our "Matt!" I, of all people, learned to love basketball! :)
How cute are the lil calfs!!! I love the hill country. It was fun to always watch the deer come to my parents front porch and eat the flowers and plants my parents planted. I miss you tons....NYC here we come....by the way I did win some money at the BJ table. I bought all Laura Mercier so you will have to tell me how to put it on with all the brushes. I bought them too!!!
Laura I feel that you've replaced me as favorite visitor to the ranch. That's fine, just don't eat all the cookies.
