Our day began with our breakfast at the Ullikana. I recall our meal with the three servings that consisted of a Maple muffin, Maine blueberries and a dollop of sour cream and cream cheese mixture and a spinach and feta cheese omelet. Then Roy told how he wanted us to spend our first visit to Acadia National Park. His description of the island and park were enchanting and he truly displays his love for the place he lives.
We started our first visit with a trip to the top of Cadillac Mountain. Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in the park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States.
Below is the town of Bar Harbor and what a beautiful view of Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Pictures just never do justice. It was quite chilly at the top too.
Then we had our next stop at Sand Beach. The water was chilly but who can resist putting their feet in the ocean?!
Matthew told me from this view that he expected Maine to look like this. I guess he felt like he had finely seen what he imagined.
And he is quite the explorer and climber. He tries to add an element of danger to whatever he is doing. For example, if the path is clear cut and everyone is walking on it he will climb rocks to go around or find a more dangerous way to meander. Not me. I am by the book when it comes to these things.
We picked and ate Wild Blueberries off the trail.
We took a small hike to look back at Sand Beach.
Then one of our pit stops was Thunder Hole on the southern tip of the island. When the tide comes in you apparently experience the "thunder of the sea" against the shown rocks.
The Jordan Pond House. We had popovers and Lobster Stew. This might have been my favorite meal in Maine. The lawn and the lake were beautiful.
The two small mountains in the background were known at "The North and South Bubbles".
The rest of our afternoon was spent reading on the lawn of Ullikana and the daily happy hour with a walk along Shore Path.
Then we headed to a lobster dinner. I just can't wrap my head around loving lobster. I really tried. But they stare at you! This was Take Two and I liked it well enough. Matthew felt the same way and tried a few more times than I did. We still loved Maine though.
