On our way out of New Hampshire. Even the clouds were perfect.
As we crossed the state line; I love how the state motto is "vacation land" as this is quite fitting. We stopped in a quaint town along the way called Bath. There we visited, briefly, the maritime museum and a boatyard.
Matthew studied the map. However, let it be known, I was the navigator and he drove. I dont' know if I've ever admitted this but I absolutely love looking at maps. Reviewing them over and over to certify we are going the right way and guesstimate time. I have realized this about myself the in my later years and it is hysterical how much time I waste in the car just staring.
I never really considered, thought, pondered how boats were made. This probably wouldn't even have come close to how I'd imagine either.
Then we made it to Wiscasset for lunch. Little did I know we'd spend an hour and a half waiting in line to eat!
We waited to try the famous "Red's" Lobster Rolls. This was our first experience with lobster.
We got the blue berry ice cream as we waited in line. Blueberries and Maine. I just didn't know. They were lovely and they are so petite in comparison to the blueberries we get here in Texas. More to come on this but the ice cream was divine!
The lobster roll was good. It was cold; for some reason I suspected it would be warm. It was still delicious but I could not eat it without all the butter either.
A glimpse of Maine and the coastal highway. Part of the reason our drive took all.day.long. Still, it was a day of anticipation and excitement.
A good seven hours later; we made it to Bar Harbor.
Our room at the Bed and Breakfast. It is called the Ullikana and was the most amazing, historic home with hospitable owners and friendly guests. I can't get over how many people we met that go every summer and stay here. If only Maine wasn't so far this is such an ideal summer escape. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we too can find a way to make it ours.
We made it just in time for sunset and staring out at the peaceful harbor.
And we made it for the daily happy hour with wine and cheese.
We took a walk along Shore Path; which I too fell in love with. I would run each morning along the ocean. Which I have found to be one of my favorite things in life; running on the water. I remember how happy I was doing this in Australia and now Maine.
A children's orchestra was playing as we walked through Town Square on Thursday night.
On our way to dinner at Cafe This Way for dinner.
The surprise of the night were the star gazer lilies that greeted us. It may sound silly but God has always been so good to me with star gazer lilies and we found these growing outside the restaurant. I have never seen them in the wild before and it was one of those moments where I felt extra special; as if something was done just for me to celebrate the day. I'm thankful for this moment.
